Feminist Frequency: The Lego Boys Club - Legos & Gender Part 2

I’m currently in Television Business class, which is basically about fishing for ratings with the ultimate goal of selling viewers to advertisers.  This also means I get to listen to a ton of sexist gender-essentialism all day.  Glad I can come home and go online so I can dislodge my eyeballs from being stuck rolling around in the back of my cranium.

Nothing like cracking yourself open and crawling out of the fissure.
Some nights you just need to stay home and molt.

Netflix: Suggestions For You

I Kissed A Girl is a boner dyke anthem for straight girls who like to turn guys on by making out or like faking gay. I hate Katy Perry! She’s offensive to gay culture, I’m so offended. She’s just riding on the backs of our culture, without having to pay any of the dues and not being actually lesbian or anything at all. She’s on the cover of a fucking gay magazine.

Coolest thing I’ve ever posted:  I wrote an artist spotlight on B.Steady for Autostraddle.com!  Endless thanks to Crystal for helping me with the whole thing!

You call me your derelict daughter but never your prodigal son. If I’m gonna live in boxes, then I wanna be the one who picks them out.

The Gossip - Listen Up!

It’s been a hair dying weekend!  [pictures soon]  I had been waiting for fresh hair growth, and I finally had enough to bleach and pigment it to it’s former glory.  This requires many hours inside with stuff on my head, so obviously I needed a soundtrack.  Some Riot Grrrl was definitely in order.

gowns:

josé julio sarria, gay latino who ran for public office in 1961 - many many years before harvey milk

he ran for the san francisco board of supervisors and almost won by default, until people noticed there was a gay man running and immediately submitted everyone possible for the position. he didn’t win, but he still got 6000 votes, which shocked conservatives
he was also a drag queen popular at many of the balls at the time…and he still does it today (lookin good for a guy in his late 80s)!

It’s so funny how White “Queerstorians” conveniently never tell us about this beautiful querido right here. <3

Jose Julio Sarria, new addition to my list of Queer heros.  Read this interview with him from OutHistory here!

A-Camp Talent Show: 21 Hump Street Doppelgangbang!

For the talent show on the last night of A-Camp, my cabin decided to impersonate the staff.  We also decided to drink instead of rehearse.  We nailed it, obviously.

Lila Rose - In The Dimmest

Shattered to pieces gotta build them right back up

If you had the chance how would you choose to make that look

Cause you’re left in shambles

And hunting for answers

Answers answers

(chorus) In the dimmest of lights there must be a reason

Turn on the rest so you can then see on

On past the rubble if starting then stumble

Crawling to walking turns standing then running

It must be that a next thing is surely coming

Oh it must be that a next thing is surely coming

Standing here naked will you hold me while I do

Go down in further let it take me and imbue

If drowning is metaphor

You stand firm upon the shore

Upon the shore upon the shore

(chorus)

There’s a home holding you up

There’s a way out of the down

There’s a new way to found found

See the way they fit together, same old pieces brand new fit

Castle fell rebuilds into it

There’s a home holding you up

There’s a way out of the down

There’s a new way to found found

See the way they fit together, brand new pieces they still fit

Think I’m finally breaking through it

Through it through it

(chorus)

This is such a great morning song.

It just goes well with tea and early light and optimism.  Also, right now it’s morning and it’s fitting my mood, so.
